Five held for murder of BJP leader in Pratapgarh

JAIPUR: police claimed a major success after it arrested five persons for the a 42-year-old local who was killed on November 3 in broad daylight.

Additional SP (ASP) Ratan Lal Bhargav told TOI that deceased Samrath Kumawat (42) had a property dispute with one Sukhlal of Sanchai village. “Sukhlal called up a history-sheeter who has been identified as Rosham Khan to intimidate Kumawat. Things took a wrong turn when Kumawat publicly humiliated Khan in front of crowd,” Bhargav said.

Khan decided to kill Kumawat and hired from Madhya Pradesh. “Sukhalal was not aware of Rosham Khan’s intentions. The three shooters were living in the city on a fake identity and roamed with Sukhlal,” Bhargav said.

On November 3, Kumawat, district vice-president of the OBC cell of BJP, was going towards Pratapgarh city from his village around 11am to buy fertilizers and seeds, he was on his two-wheeler when three men on a bike stopped him on the Jhansadi road.

The trio fired at Kumawat and later and slit his throat with a sharp weapon. The victim, shocked by the sudden attack, did not resist or call for help. A child, who was standing nearby and witnessed the grisly murder, informed the local people who gathered at the spot. Infuriated over the murder, villagers blocked the road and refused to shift the body for post-mortem while demanding immediate arrest of assailants.

The police said that they have arrested four persons, including Sukhlal and Rosham Khan. The three other are accused identified as Om Prakash, Ravindra Singh and Prakash. “Om Prakash, Ravindra and Prakash were part of the team that helped in carrying out recce of the victim. We have also identified the shooters and search is on to arrest them,” added an official.
